President, Cleveland Teachers Union
David Quolke has served as an Ohio 8 Co-Chair since 2010. During his tenure, he has lead efforts to reorganized and revitalize the Ohio 8 Coalition, which have resulted in greater membership participation and engagement. Under Quolke’s leadership, the Ohio 8 Coalition has created a reputation as a resource of elected and appointed officials and expert in education policies that improve academic performance, increase graduation rates and close the achievement gap for urban children throughout Ohio.
Quolke is in his 5th year as President of the Cleveland Teachers Union. A graduate of Cleveland State University, Quolke began his career in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District as an orientation and mobility instructor for the visually impaired in 1984. He was a passionate advocate for students with disabilities throughout his career and carries that same passion for public education now that he is president of the Cleveland Teachers Union.
Quolke has been on the CTU’s negotiations team since 1994 and led his union during negotiations with the CMSD during 2010, which resulted in an agreement that included the new teacher development and evaluation system. Quolke is currently heading the negotiations for the CTU with the CMSD for the 2012-13 school year.
In addition to being President of the CTU, David was recently elected as a Vice-President of the American Federation of Teachers and is on the Executive Council’s of the North Shore AFL-CIO Federation of Labor, The Ohio Federation of Teachers and the Ohio AFL-CIO.
He is married to Lucy Quolke and has one daughter, Alexa (17).
